Aldeasa Vancouver Art Direction

Aldeasa Vancouver, now part of World Duty Free Group, was releasing a seasonal brochure to inform travelers of the goods and discounts offered at the YVR Duty Free shop. There was a need to tie in the airport/travel theme with the vast range of luxury items, ranging from aged liquors to premium cosmetics.

It was suggested that the new art direction be a playful typographic treatment listing brand names that Aldeasa’s target audience would recognize. Our designers saw an opportunity to create more interest through simple illustrations of specific products. One will notice the distinct shapes of a bottle of Dom Pérignon, a Burberry handbag or a Movado watch. In a sense, the art direction also presented a simple mini-game for travelers to guess each product. Internal testing was also conducted and our team correctly guessed all liquor bottles, no problem! You can call that a keen eye for detail…

The new art direction was presented on brochures and monthly newsletters in four different languages and more travelers were now aware of the duty free experience even before they pass the security check-in.
